Today was Pi Day!!! I somehow had all my pies done at 8:30 last night.... I didn't know what to do at that point, I actually debated thinking up another pie because I had extra time. I didn't. I decided 12 was enough. I got up at 5:30 to heat up a few of the pies and pack everything up and take them into work and lay everything out and decorate and whatnot. These were my 12:
Frozen Lemonade - this one was tasty and sooo easy, I added a little vanilla to the recipe because I add vanilla to all things sugary and good
Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie - I never actually tried this one... I was told it was good but I did a cleaning out of the old ice cream in the freezer so I was a little wary
Pecan Pie - this was OK, flavor was pretty good but the pecans were whole which made it a little hard to cut and you couldn't get a clean piece
Tollhouse Pie - this one was good and dense and rich, though not all that exciting, it was actually the last one anyone cut into
Lemon Chess Pie - this was OK but too sweet and not tart enough for my taste, also I guess my baking time or something was off because it came out a bit runny, though that could have been from the ice bath
Better than Sex Pie - this was actually a so so cheesecake, I topped it with raspberries and I cut up a few of those truffles I had left from Aldis and put them on top. I had already stuck them in when I thought I should've made a pi sign.... oh well
Pumpkin Pie - 2 of them because that's what the recipe on the can made. They were OK. The filling I suspect was slightly under cooked
Chocolate Mousse Pie - This came out pretty good, very very rich and turned a bit soupy by the end of the day.
Cappucchino Pie - This is more of a classic chocolate mousse pie. It was a bit denser than it should have been because I added too much coffee to the whipped cream and killed it a bit.
Onion Pie - I didn't cook the onions enough so this ended up runny. Flavor wise it was really rich and good though.
Corn and Bacon Pie - This was actually the most popular pie, at least in the morning, despite the fact that it is Friday during Lent and most people aren't supposed to eat meat. So I broke them of that too hahahahah
I had the cold ones in ice baths so they would stay cold throughout the day. I thought ahead. I was quite proud of myself for thinking ahead. Apparently I didn't think that well because I used disposable pie plates and when people cut a piece of pie they ended up puncturing the pan and since it was sitting in a melting ice bath. So the crusts on a bunch of them got ruined after the first piece.
Another one of my great ideas was to bring in Pi music and videos. I had the collection on my laptop so I set that up and put the playlist on repeat for the day.... all day....
There was a lot of planning, I made the first 2 over the weekend, the 2 frozen pies that wouldn't turn mushy, then I made 4 on Wed night, 6 last night and warmed up 4 this morning to take into work. All in all, a pretty good plan and the execution even went pretty well. I only got one burn on this whole process too. And of course it was while I was taking out the last pie too.
After I got all my pies laid out I thought it looked kind of weird just a bunch of pies on a table so I decided I needed to make a sign. I went to look for something to put it on and the best that I found was a cardboard box. I taped it up and put up the signs from my door on the box. See my cool sign and my pretty laptop in the middle? Also, other people started bringing in pies. How cute is that, someone made a pi flag for theirs.
Look at all these yummy pies... more came later but I forgot to take a pic... and I meant to take one after all the carnage but I never quite got around to that either... oh well.... yes I know one of them is sideways but you can turn your head.
I never actually ate anything other than pie today... now I have a bit of a stomach ache and a headache but pie is so good.... I might slip into a sugar coma sometime soon....
